Support culture and play the BankGiro Loterij - the lottery in the Netherlands that funds culture. The BankGiro Loterij strives to make our cultural heritage accessible to the widest audience possible. This is achieved by supporting 57 museums and other cultural institutions. Centraal Museum has been one of these fortunate beneficiaries since 2007.
Support Centraal Museum
Funding by the BankGiro Loterij has, for example, allowed the Centraal Museum to realize significant acquisitions such as Pyke Koch’s Portret van Jkvr. J.C. van Boetzelaer I (ca. 1947) in January of this year. The BankGiro Loterij is also a keen promoter of the permanent collection. The dick bruna huis is currently still showing Miffy in Fashion, an exhibition running to 22 January 2012 for which the BankGiro Loterij is an important partner.
60 million euro towards culture
Thanks to the lottery’s players, the BankGiro Loterij can grant many tens of millions to 57 museums and other cultural institutions in the Netherlands. From its 2010 takings the BankGiro Loterij put nearly 60 million euro towards the cultural sector. Besides the Centraal Museum, BankGiro Loterij also supports the Rijksmuseum, Vereniging De Hollandsche Molen (Dutch Windmill Association), the Groninger Museum, the Railway Museum, and Vereniging Hendrick De Keyser, an association for the preservation of historic houses in the Netherlands.
The BankGiro Loterij is part of Nationale Holding Goede Doelen Loterijen, which also includes Nationale Postcode Loterij and Sponsor Bingo Loterijen.
On average around 750,000 people play the BankGiro Loterij each month, with a total number of 1.2 million tickets. The money prizes that are won can run up to 500,000 and even 1 million euro. Players can also win ‘prizes in kind’ such as cultural trips and hotel stays. Players of the BankGiro Loterij do not only join to win: half of their contribution goes towards the support of cultural heritage.
