Rood-blauwe leunstoel
Van de Groenekan has inscribed the underside of each rail with the inscription 'under'. He often did this to help him during assembling and to remind himself that these surfaces did not need to be finished. The seat was originally sawn in the same width as the backrest and has been broadened with a 3-cm-wide strip. This says something about the scarcity of plywood in this period and perhaps also about Van de Groenekan's lack of familiarity in making this model after such a long gap in production.

In a letter of 1959, the Mayor and Alderman of Utrecht thank Rietveld for a large gift, which included this chair. Rietveld's popularity grew in the 1950s as a result of several exhibitions about De Stijl, including one at the Centraal Museum.
