When people sit on these chairs, they literally turn their backs on each other. With S(h)it on It, Richard Hutten metaphorically captures one of the most dominant factors in 20th-century Italian history: fascism. The text ‘Nie Wieder’ was scratched onto a seat by a visitor to an exhibition in Bremen. Hutten decided to repeat the text in English and to carve it in more deeply still, thereby making the audience’s emotional response a part of the object. [text 2023]

Remarks
