The Muscle Suit
<span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:medium;">The Muscle Suit is one of Ruben Jurriën’s (1999) most </span><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:medium;">recognisable designs. The two-piece suit was inspired by a </span><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:medium;">moment when a man verbally lashed out at Jurriën and his </span><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:medium;">friend, after seeing the two lovers kiss. To break with traditional </span><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:medium;">ideas like ‘men should be strong’, he created this suit – which </span><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:medium;">includes a six pack and muscular arms - but now soft and </span><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:medium;">surrounded by ruffles. Toetie (Jurrien’s cuddly toy and role </span><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:medium;">model), hearts and positive texts embrace the wearer like </span><span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:medium;">armour, to show what it really means to be strong. Be yourself! [text 2024]</span>
